Endometriosis

Is a very complicated medical condition that occurs when endometrial tissue from the lining of the uterus appears in other parts of the pelvis, and may adhere to the ovaries, fallopian tubes, bladder and even the bowel in severe cases.
The tissue responds to hormone changes and will bleed at the same time as your period leading to scar tissue and adhesions. Endometriosis can be a major cause of infertility.

Endometriosis Symptoms

Symptoms often include severe period pain and stomach cramps, prolonged and heavy periods with clotting, low back pain during the period, pain during intercourse, and often a change in bowel movements during menstruation.
If symptoms are severe then see your gynaecologist for advice as minor surgery in the form of a laparoscopy may be necessary to help improve your chance of conceiving.

Endometriosis Treatments

Acupuncture may help with endometriosis and will often reduce the pain and severe cramping that is associated with the disease, improving blood flow and reducing clotting.   Acupuncture also acts as an analgesic by increasing levels of endorphins in the blood.  During treatment we will take into account your full menstrual history, including the length of the cycle, and the pain, including the time that it occurs, the location, and the nature and severity experienced.

Changes to your diet may also improve some of the symptoms, and our nutritionist will be happy to advise you.
