What is PCOS caused by?

How is PCOS diagnosed?

PCOS is diagnosed by blood tests, an ultrasound scan or by a laparoscopy investigation.    Blood test confirm whether there is an hormonal imbalance underlying the problem.  Ultrasound scans of the woman’s pelvis may confirm enlarged cystic ovaries.  The laparoscopy involves inserting a telescope into the woman’s abdomen under general anaesthetic, allowing the specialist to see the structures inside the pelvis and abdomen.
